School is almost over and I am very happy. I have tried new things as part of my ongoing desire to learn more, and my kids are the recipients of those attempts. I have kids who have done claymation, blogging, podcasting, and all sorts of other cool stuff. I am going to take classes this summer, and be ready to start my Teach21 year off right in July.

Capstone Exp

I went to the expo last night and it was sooooo cool. It was awesome to see all the hard work that everybody did. Talking to the teachers who are at the end of the road, it is amazing to see their continued enthusiasm for the work and the inclusion of technology.

Another week gone

As we approach the end of the year, and the beginning of my actual Teach21 experience, I look back and wonder at what I am thinking. I have started my specialist degree, have taken on the yearbook, still work on the webpage, and take care of my husband and son. Add to all of that, I have changed my class to suit the curriculum, instead of taking the easy way out, and while not everything has worked right, it has been interesting to see students make the connections — occassionally.

Now the question — what will next year hold????

teach 21 — blogging

For the first time, I am incorporating blogging with my 8th graders. I am suprised at how well they are taking to the idea of having to journal when they get to do it on the computer. I expected resistence and fluff, and while some of the posts haven’t been great, the effort is still there. I am excited about next year when I can incorporate even more different types of technology into my classroom.

Well, we learned more about RSS feeds and Wikis today. I am not sure I am going to use WIKI’s, at least not in the classroom. I still don’t see a way to let students access it and change it without getting information from them that I don’t want out there. I like the RSS feeds because I forget to check stuff, and this allows me to see stuff when I go to google, even if I forget to look it up in the first place.

Only 1 more class to go — I might be a little sad.

the class this week was lots of fun, and motivated me to try something different with my 8th grade classes. They have to do journal entries at the end of every activity within the notebook. Well, now, they will answer those questions not on paper, but on this blog. It will be interesting to see how they do, and if they like it or not.

Class 3 … Engaged Learners speak out

Our class monday night was very interesting. We read an article that looked at a school of tomorrow that has been in existence since 2006. We then compared the ideas behind this school against our own Teach21 initative. It was fasicnating hearing the different points of view from teachers.

We also looked at different projects to try and determine where they are on the LOTI scale. I realized that I am not as far up as I thought I was. I am probably only a consistent 3 but that just leaves me more room for improvement.

Smartboard — or not !!

Well, I was all excited as we went to break in February because I thought I was getting a smartboard. I got a few lessons, and was ready to try and play and learn. Then I found out I wouldn’t be getting one till May (maybe). It is upsetting in that I was looking forward to changing my class a littl emore to incorporate the smartboard, but it hasn’t dimmed my enthusiasm for Teach21 or for the technology that needs to be the basis of the new educational system we are dealing with.
